Bridstowe Lavender Farm...

The Bridestowe plantations have made Tasmania famous worldwide for its lavender. A guided tour of the Bridestowe Estate has become a popular attraction for visitors and locals alike. When in flower, the fields offer a spectacular scene set in a superb bushland setting with a backdrop of distant mountains (don't forget to bring your camera). Come by car or join one of the many bus tours that operate from most major centres. These are available most days during the flowering season.

C.K. Denny, a highly skilled London perfumer, and his family founded Bridestowe Estate in 1921. Lavender seeds from the European Alps were planted the following year. Such was the specialised and demanding nature of the project that it took 43 years before the Estate's management was satisfied that problems of economic efficiency and rigorous quality control had been solved. Nowadays, Bridestowe Estate is internationally renowned for its technical and botanical research. Years of selection and improvisation have been rewarded with the finest strains of the true perfumery lavender (Lavandula angustifolia). Pure lavender oil from the Estate's distillery is now exported worldwide and is highly prized by the world's leading perfume houses.

Bridestowe Estate Lavender Farm produces, on site, lavender flowers as well as lavender oil, and from these materials the Bridestowe manufacturing division produces Tasmanian made lavender products which make ideal souvenirs and gifts.

The following amenities are available for your convenience at the farm:

• Guided tour of the processing plant and details of the farm history during December and January (which is the flowering season). A nominal admission fee is charged during December and January only, which covers the guided tour and use of all facilities. Admission is free at all other times.
• Souvenir and Gift Shop - a large range of lavender products, souvenir and gift lines are available.
• Kiosk - snacks, hot and cold drinks, ice creams, films, etc. are available during December and January.
• Use of barbecues and grassed areas with picnic tables.
• Toilets

Bridestowe Estate is open November to April (9am to 5pm, 7 days/week). The Estate is closed on Christmas Day. During May, September and October, opening times are 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday only. The Estate is closed during the months of June, July and August.
