Franklin House...
Franklin House is located in the Franklin Village near Launceston, accessible
by the old highway between the Breadalbane roundabout and Launceston via Kings
Meadows. Franklin House can also be reached from Launceston by the MTT Bus
Service to Stop 28.
This charming Georgian house, a fine example and typical of the period, has
been beautifully restored and furnished by the National Trust. Franklin House
was built in 1838 for Mr Britton Jones, an early Launceston brewer and innkeeper.
In 1842 it became the W.K. Hawkes School for Boys. An outstanding feature
of the interior is the woodwork, all from New South Wales cedar.
Franklin House is open daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm (4:00pm in June, July and
August). It is closed on Christmas Day and Good Friday. Morning and afternoon
teas are available.
