"Tamar Odyssey" - Tamar River Cruises...

The Tamar River is Australia's longest (76km) navigable tidal estuary. It is 4km wide at the widest point with a tidal range of 3 to 4 metres. The navigable section of the spectacular Cataract Gorge is included in our cruises. In 1804, explorer William Collins entered the Gorge and was mover to report - "The beauty of the scene is probably not surpassed in the world."

The captain's commentary includes the exploits of notable explorers and the infamous bushrangers. We cruise past the historic Rosevears Tavern (1831) and the point where the little ship "The Rebecca" was launched and sailed by John Batman across Bass Strait In 1835 to establish a settlement on the Yarra River, now Melbourne.

We share the river with wonderful wildlife including sea eagles, wild duck, black swan, pelicans and occasionally, playful dolphins and seals.

The M.V. Tamar Odyssey is a 15-metre Cougar catamaran and has a maximum capacity of 58 guests. Stability and ride are excellent, with guests cruising in absolute comfort - rain, hail or shine. Quality Tasmanian produce is served where meals are part of the cruise, and the boat has full bar facilities. Complimentary tea and coffee are also available. The needs of the disabled are also catered for, with ramps providing easy roll on/off access. Smoking is permitted on the open aft lower, upper and fore decks.

A number of cruises are available, including The Batman Bridge Luncheon Cruise (daily from 10:00am to 2:00pm; 11:00am to 3:00pm Sundays), The Afternoon Discovery Cruise (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3:00pm to 5:30pm), and The Evening Buffet Dinner Cruise Friday and Saturday from 7:15pm to 11:15pm).
